Quasimorphosis Explained: The Meter That Controls Danger
What Quasimorphosis is in Quasimorph, what raises and lowers the meter, its eight phases, and what happens when it hits Rapture at meter value 1000.
Quasimorphosis is the mechanic Quasimorph is named after — a rising meter caused by creatures called quasimorphs inhabiting alternate dimensions called bramfaturas, and as it climbs, those creatures grow stronger and start physically breaking into the mission you're on.
What Quasimorphosis actually is
The official wiki frames Quasimorphosis as the interaction between "bramfaturas" — alternate dimensions — and physical reality. Per-destination descriptions on the galaxy map flag whether a location has ongoing "quasimorphic activity." On a mission where it's active, the meter rises every turn, eventually producing what testing describes as "very weird demons appearing and bursting out of regular bodies" — a process the game calls eccolapse. One video framing sums up why this matters: it's "an intrinsic game mechanic of the utmost importance to the game, since everything... is wrapped around it." The wiki page itself is marked as a stub with thin coverage, which is part of why first-hand testing from the community (see below) fills in some of the detail official documentation doesn't yet cover.
What raises and lowers the meter
Violence and death on the current floor raises the meter — every death on the floor counts. Consuming meat-derived products also raises it, particularly human, dog, and spider flesh, along with two specific consumables that add a fixed amount each. On the other side, luxury foods, certain alcoholic drinks, and drugs like Morphine and Adrenalin lower it by a fixed amount per use. Property damage and destroying robots have no effect on the meter either way. In practice, cigarettes and morphine are the most commonly cited go-to items for actively pushing the meter back down.
The eight phases
| Phase | Meter Range | What Happens |
|---|---|---|
| Absentia | 0 | Locked in specific missions; quasimorphs cannot appear at all |
| Somnia | 0-99 | Normal gameplay; eccolapse is not possible yet |
| Grasp | 100-249 | Eccolapse begins, roughly a 25% chance; quasimorphs have standard stats |
| Intrusion | 250-399 | Eccolapse rate rises to 40%; quasimorphs gain +3 resistances and 110% damage/health |
| Plenum | 400-599 | Eccolapse can now affect living creatures directly (55% chance); enemies reach 125% health |
| Alteration | 600-799 | Eccolapse occurs 80% of the time; elite quasimorphs start spawning; 135% damage output |
| Q-Morphos | 800-999 | 90% eccolapse chance; 155% damage, +12 resistances, 170% health |
| Rapture | 1000 | 100% eccolapse; a Baron quasimorph spawns; evacuation is impossible until it's defeated |
What happens at Rapture
At meter value 1000, an extremely powerful Baron-tier Quasimorph manifests specifically to eliminate your operator. Every other human on the floor — including living mission objectives and any operatives from other PMCs present — eccolapses and dies at that point. Killing the Baron resets the meter back down to 100, ends Rapture, and drops a S.K.U.L.L. pact item as a reward, tying this mechanic directly into the pact system.
Rapture is also how you unlock pacts
Deliberately pushing the meter to Rapture and killing the resulting Baron is the primary way to earn pacts in 1.0 — see the dedicated pacts guide on this site for the full unlock chain and where each Baron spawns.
How eccolapse actually works
Eccolapse is the process by which a quasimorph uses a creature — usually a human — as a gateway into reality, killing the host in the process as the quasimorph manifests in its place. Newly manifested quasimorphs are immobile and invulnerable for two turns immediately after the transition, which is a brief window worth knowing about if you're caught near one when it happens.
A presentation detail worth knowing
One additional detail not documented on the wiki page itself: the game's music tempo and rhythm noticeably increase as the phases climb, giving you an audio cue for how dangerous the current floor has become without needing to check the meter directly. An in-game phase-details panel also shows the current phase, how many turns remain until the next one, and the current eccolapse chance.
